Belmar's 2008 Must-have Fall Elements of Style:
Belmar wants to provide you with the hottest and most up to date fashion information. Keep these elements in mind when you are purchasing your fall wardrobe at Belmar!
#1 Statement Pieces
There will be a lot of emphasis this fall season on clean tailoring and sophisticated colors. It is a natural then to find key statement accessories to make your outfit stand out and be yours. What to get: mens wear hats, patterned and colorful tights, handbags in bold colors and styles, and chunky jewelry. Examples of some standout chunky favorites are: oversized cuff bracelets or add matching bangles to feminine styles and layers. Bags and jewelry will be found in all varieties from studded with large gems, enameled, or tooled leather. And don't forget a fun Cocktail ring which continue to reign. Wear them all dressed up to parties or dressed down with jeans.
#2 A High Waist
Whether you have a high waist with pants, skirt or a dress, this look is fresh. Add a narrow belt and you will have perfectly polished style. Love it! Cinch it!
#3 Mad About Plaid
Marie Claire magazine's Autumn Catwalk reports that mismatched colors and geometric patterns are the fabrics of the season. Plaid looks can add fun style to feminine chiffon dresses and makes a great showcase on skirts, tops and dresses, as well as plaid-patterned tights. If you are really brave, you can mix plaid pants with mismatched hosiery which is a big accessories trend for the fall. Both small and bold prints will be seen.
#4 Fall Floral's
Spring is not the only season for flowers. Just do it in darker shades. Autumn takes a turn with exotic floral's appearing on blouses and dresses. Pick up a maxi dress or A-line skirt with a bold and fun splash of bouquets and flowers.
#5 Bow Blouses
Whether they are tiny and tight or remarkably voluminous, bows can act as a necklace for your upper-body this season. With this style, you will look pulled together in an instant.
#6 Kiss and Make up
Make up trends can be tricky. You want to balance what looks good on your own pretty face, but also keep with the times. A fall must have for make up is to keep it fresh. Soft and glowing complexion is always in style. Also throw out that old mascara! Keep that essential style that you love but add a pop of color for night time and definitely on the lips. If you are a gal that keeps up with the trends, here are a few must haves for the season: enhanced eyebrows, burgundy or red lips, bold blue eye-shadow with black liner; pinky cheeks and dark gray smoky eyes. Remember, if you go dark on the eyes, go paler on the lips and vice versa. Not every gal can wear a strong red lip but if you can, go for it and pucker up!
#7 Shoes Are a Girls Best Friend
These boots are made for walking! Ankle boots, over the knee, other great boot silhouettes and the revitalization of the cap-toe from last winter are back in, but in richer colors. Also, look out for the colored patent leather in many 80's colors and 1920's Mary Jane looks in many styles. Also, if you loved the gladiator sandals from this summer, you will love the Viking look of the fall. Look for a chunkier heel and harsh embellishments on boots and heels. Think spy girl/femme fatale.
#8 Don't Follow the Rules
Fashion 2008 is all about following your own rules - be a rebel! Here are just a few rules that are changing: let your roots show a little, wear tights with sandals, go shorter for a black tie, wear your hair long after 40, don't be so matchy/matchy - stockings can be a different color than your dress, mix gold and silver, marry prints and tweeds, wear sparkling sequins in the day, give your hair a big tease, wear lighter colors all year and girls, you can wear horizontal stripes! I can hear that rebel yell!
#9 Slouchy Pants
Get your dessert on as this look gives you room to splurge. The low-slung look reappears for fall. The wider silhouette shows off a small waist. We love these slouchy trousers. These baggy pants can actually be quite sexy and taken from the office to cocktails.
#10 Oversized Knits
Think cozy this fall! Oversized cable knits, cashmere sweaters and off the shoulder swoop will rival the wool coat this fall. Deliciously warm and cozy sweaters in rich colors are what you should be looking for this season.
#11 Neo 50's/Neo Conservative
You may not be from the conservative party but this traditional first lady look is fresh and polished for fall. Look for many terrific looks like kitten heel and knee-length airy shift dress to the cashmere coats in the palest of pastels. Jackie would approve! Check out the AMC's Mad Men for inspiration for shopping for that perfect 50's inspired day dress.
#12 Flapper
The Flapper look continues to be a strong trend in fashion. Designers love this look and the spirit of the 1920's. Think of a Berlin smoky jazz club for seductive pieces, or flapper-style shifts that are just a hint shorter than the original 20's styles. Other 20's inspired looks are feather topped skirts with gold accents for a luxury look that would suit any Gatsby girl.
#13 An Off the Shoulder Neck
Shoulders are super sexy. Every woman loves them. The off the shoulder neck line is found this fall in dresses, sweaters, and gowns, all deliciously showcasing the beautiful shoulder and neck.
#14 A Bell Shape
Define your shape with a bell curve. The waist can get added accents with a peplum bell curve. Also, seen with triangle sleeves and defining bell shape coats, this 40's look is in the spotlight. You can ring my bell.
#15 Good Hair Days
What is in for fall for your lovely locks? There are a lot of fresh hairstyles that are inspired from the runway this fall season. Some that stand out: super sleek and super straight with a center part; smooth waves - think Veronica Lake - glamour girl; braids and twists added in to up dos and tousled waves with a bed head feel that is un-tight and touchable. Gee your hair smells terrific!
#16 What is Your Favorite Color?
For fall 2008, get your deep violet, iris blue, and chocolate brown on! "Fall is traditionally a time for subdued quiet colors, but this season we are seeing a shift toward cool hues with bright, exciting undertones," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "Conventional tones such as warm autumn hues, chocolate browns, and steel grays are also among the fall color choices. Blue and purple tones have become staples, as illustrated by Blue Iris, one of the top 10 chosen colors by designers this season, and Pantone's Color of the Year for 2008."
